7 Top Tips for Decorating your Bathroom

by Tony Small

Without costing a fortune!

1. Add an Armchair

If you’ve got the space, why not put an armchair in your bathroom? You can pick normally pick up a spare armchair from a junk shop or charity shop without spending a fortune. Cover it with a nice, washable throw and voila, the instant luxury feel. Naturally, this is assuming you’ve got enough space. You dont have to pick a giant armchair, pick one that is in proportion to the bathroom. The very worst thing you can do is to squeeze in a piece of furniture where there is not enough space so if an armchair is going to make the room look too crowded, skip this step.

2. Wall to Wall Magic

Did you know that you can get water resistant coated wallpaper from many home improvement stores? Not only is it usually cheaper (and easier) than tiling the whole bathroom, but choosing the right (coordinated!) pattern can really add the wow factor.

3. Colour me Beautiful

Coordinate your colours. In a small bathroom this is essential. This not only includes the fittings (the bath and basins and floor) but everything from the towels to the blinds, the bathmats and shower curtains.

When choosing a colour scheme, think about the following:

Red for vitality and excitement.

Blue to relax and unwind.

Green is to invigorate: it fights depression, calms the nerves and resfreshes, hence it being used in hospitals.

Yellow for joy like sunshine.

4. Window Areas

Using linen sheets (instead of curtains) in conjunction with blinds can add a real feeling of luxury .

5. Accessories

Accessories will give your bathroom a co-ordinated look. Old fashioned bottles or even new decanters can be filled with coloured bubble bath. And for a sea theme, try using pebbles and starfish found on the shore. Paperweights as decorations for bathrooms are a good idea too. Dont forget to put up a bookshelf or put a basket on the floor for magazines if you have a toilet in your bathroom.

6. Mirrors

Place mirrors or mirror tiles at right angles to windows to direct daylight back into your bathroom and create the illusion of space. The bigger the mirror the better.

7. Baby Light My Fire!

Who doesnt like a nice relaxing candlelit bath? Get some scented candles! - and candle holders should of course coordinate with the other accessories.
