Adult Acne can be caused by an excess of sebum on the skin, which comes from the expansion of oil glands. This excess sebum then gets trapped in hair follicles and clogs up the pores. These clogged pores then allow the growth of bacteria, in particular the growth of propionibacterium acnes which leads to the appearance of acne. The causes of acne are not exactly known and acne can affect different people in different ways.

There have been various suggestions as to the causes of acne, causes include hormonal imbalances, as well as other factors such as diet, stress and vitamin deficiency.

Research has shown that the reduction of sebum and keratin production is linked to the level of vitamin A in a sufferers body. For this reason it is important to keep your body well balanced with plenty of vitamin A. You can do this by eating at least five portions of fruits and vegetables every day.

As outlined previously, vitamin A is linked with acne problems and overcoming them. But zinc is also important because it helps to make vitamin A effective. This can help heal skin that has been damaged by acne.

Also note that there are some over the counter creams and treatments available which can help with the control of your acne. Creams that contain sulphur are known to be very effective. Take advantage of advice available to you from your local chemist or Doctor, seek their advice on what cream could be best suited to your condition. Try to avoid any creams or other treatments that contain bromide and iodide because they can increase the inflamation and cause you more discomfort.

Please remember to double check with your Doctor or Medical advisor before trying any new creams or medications to make sure they are suitable to you and have no hidden side effects.

Something else that you should avoid in an attempt to reduce your acne are foods which are have a high content of refined sugar. Aside from your acne you should avoid products with fried oils or hydrogenated vegetable oils, although not proven to cause acne, it is better for your overall health to avoid these oils.

There are a wide variety of acne treatments that are totally natural, they can sometimes be very effective if not more effective than regular medical treatments prescribed by your Doctor. People often choose this type of treatment because the chances of side effects occuring are smaller. The only downside is that natural acne treatments can take longer to have an effect than usual medical acne treatments. Also note that tea tree contains properties that can help improve your acne.
