The state of Utah has a population of around two million seven hundred thousand. The Wasatch Mountain range runs right through it, but not many people know much about the state. When many people think about the state the only things that come to mind are the Mormon Church and the great skiing. Despite that, though, many large and powerful companies are finding it an ideal place to set up their operations.
We always think of California as being Silicon Valley. Utah, then, could be thought of as the Silicon Slopes, and rightfully so. If one were to peruse a map of the industry in the Utah area, it would be clear by the list of the businesses why a name like that could apply.
There are already some well established, multinational corporations set up there. One of the more famous ones is Novell, an industry giant that has more than 100 companies throughout the world. The company has been around for many years and is still expanding its business. They produce infrastructure software for Open Enterprise, and own many patents on applications that were designed to help the business world.
Omniture is another huge company that has a corporate headquarters in Utah. This company has set a standard for website tracking software. Their program allows companies to track visitors on their site and discover how they use and view the content. This kind of knowledge can be used to better optimize the website and improve the business.
There are also a number of other companies in Utah that are a number of big, famous companies closely tied to the computer industry. Apple, Microsoft, HP, and others have either set up shop in the state or are making plans to move there soon.
No discussion about industry in Utah would be complete without mentioning the effect of tourism on the Utah economy. Utah has some of the greatest ski slopes in the country, and because of the amazing scenery, hikers and campers can find endless enjoyment out there. There are also some great, small towns where you can rent some great lodges or condos to make the stay more enjoyable.
If you’re looking for a place to start or raise a family, Utah is a great choice. The crime rate is relatively low, and the opportunities for employment - with so many new companies setting up offices there - is pretty good. There is a lot of industry, tourism and educational opportunities in the area, and, when you want to go back home, the Salt Lake City airport offers a lot of convenience. Utah offers a lot of opportunities for companies both large and small, and more and more companies are going to be part of this new business environment.
Utah is gaining a reputation for being home to some reputable tecnology businesses. Utah technology is headed up by Silicon Slopes, a group of the foremost tech companies in Utah.
