Metal Water Bottles? Check This Out Before You Get One

The bottled water that you buy from your neighborhood store or the plastic bottle that you use as a canteen, are all made from a type of polycarbonate, which is suspected of leeching a harmful chemical called Bisphenol A or BPA. This substance causes a lot of damage once it enters the body, since it has the capacity of duplicating as the good hormones and begin the damage. This chemical is also found in other products including water pipes, dental sealant products, as linings for food cans. Tests on animals has shown that BPA can cause severe damage on brain development and reproduction.

Such studies found that old plastic bottles released the same quantities of BPA as new bottles. Many scientists feel that BPA causes harmful effects in human beings. Some of them found that extremely high levels of BPA were released, when the bottles were exposed briefly to boiling water, 15-55 times faster than it is otherwise. They were afraid that cumulative environmental exposures to BPA may be detrimental to human health. They expressed their concern about the ill effects of BPA on fetal and infant brain development and their behavior patterns. The U.S. National Toxicology Program or NTP in its 2008 report states that BPA adversely affects human behavior, brain, the prostate glands in fetuses and children if exposed to the toxic chemical.

Another research released in 2008 concludes that ingestion of BPA may also result in obesity. Another research that came out in 2009 suggests that exposure to BPA during pregnancy can increase the chances of obesity in a baby. On the other hand several studies concluded that if the BPA exposure is reduced then the damage can be controlled.

All these scientific studies and reviews point to the hazards posed to human beings by being exposed to the toxic effects of Biphenol A. So drinking water out of a non BPA free plastic water bottle is not such a good idea after all. So we have to look for alternatives that are in no way a threat to you and me. And such an alternative is reusable metal water bottles. And you needn’t be a scientist to figure out that stainless steel reusable water bottles are the best bet of all.

Whats so special about stainless steel? For starters, the metal is very durable and it can be recycled conveniently once disposed of. Furthermore, it can be used again and again, without worrying about the quality of the stored liquid being affected. It is also a much environment-friendly a product to manufacture if compared with other metals and plastics. This doesn’t mean that stainless steel doesn’t cause any pollution, but thanks to ever-evolving technology, stainless steel production is much more energy efficient and eco friendly. And as far as exposure to metal is concerned, our body does require iron, chromium and other metals that a stainless steel bottle contains.

So the decision is clear, go for the BPA free stainless steel water bottle and you are no longer at the mercy of the toxic chemicals that are lurking waiting in the dark to invade your body.
