A lovely wedding with memories to be saved and shared later comes from proper planning. In order to receive the best Destination wedding photography, it’s important to look into all your options before proceeding. Choosing just anyone may cause you grief later. You must find a good photographer, a traveler if possible, which will charge you fairly for a job well done. There are upsides and downsides to all options available below.
The first thing a wedding planner typically does is as their friends and family for photographer references. It’s a good thing to possibly find a photographer who will travel to where the wedding will take place. However in some cases the overall charge can be very costly. The photographer may want to charge for travel expenses on top of the photographing he/she will be doing.
Before heading out to finding travel photographers, it’s important to check with the hotel, resort or manager of the reception first. These companies may already have an outsourced photographer they work with on a usual basis. They can recommend this person to you and you can check into their past jobs to see if this is what you want.
Also, another option to try is the on staff photographer that many hotels and resorts already have. Large wedding destinations like Disney world or Hawaii packages already have the photographer bundled into the overall price. You can usually save money this way by using their on-staff photographer.
But, if the staff photographer isn’t what you like, then next option is to check into independent or freelance photographers in the local area. Experience and pricing will vary greatly among independent picture takers. Use your judgment when interviewing them and always look at their portfolios to aide your choice.
Is your wedding being held in another country? If the American dollar exchange rate is in your favor, you just might save on the price of your photographer. Again, as always, check past works to assure you will be getting quality work for your money. Nothing says cheap like poor wedding photos simply to save a few dollars.
Always make it a point to spend time with your chosen photographer. They will need to know where to photograph family, important parts in the ceremony to capture and other scheduled pictures. Don’t leave them hanging or alienate them from the wedding. They were hired by you to give you the destination wedding photography you wanted, so give them a little time and they will give you many pleasant memories in return.
