But he will need to offer support to the bereaved family and must remain strong and mentally detached so that he can perform his functions well.
As an undertaker, an individual must project a dignified and serene personality, while taking care that his disposition doesn’t intensify the sorrow of the grieving family members and relatives.
Undertakers must have vast knowledge and deep respect for the religious beliefs and sentiments of various cultures and ethnic groups. They must be conscious of various customs and rituals followed by various sects during the funeral ceremony.
Excellent management and the power to organise are essential skills for an undertaker. Making arrangements for necessary services like flowers, hearse etc will involve coordination with several providers and will need leadership and guidance skills.
An undertaker should be smart in legal matters and should know the legal formalities to be followed, or the necessary approvals needed from the State authorities before conducting funeral services. The essential rules and formalities to be completed to obtain a death certificate or to file valid insurance claims should also be known to him.
Lastly, an undertaker must know driving and should possess an appropriate driving license, as he may have to drive hearses and limousines.
