In one year from today, you will either be fatter or fitter. Your jean size will either be larger or smaller. Your level of self esteem will either drop to an all time low or soar higher than ever. Most people on this sort of diet will lose a lot of water weight and too many people actually start breaking down muscle and using it for energy. That is not a good thing for your body or for weight loss. Without exception, that weight will come right back on in the future.

Eating a well balanced diet that includes components of every single food group and category is the only way to sustain the habit long term. A good program will help you make the best choices for your body, and that will always include a variety of nutrients and types of foods.

Cut out a food group and there is no way you are feeding your body what it needs to burn fat!

Second, a good program will include a healthy mental aspect. It will never make you feel like one small slip up is the end of the road.

What do you do when the guilt hits after eating a cupcake? If you are on a restrictive plan, you feel you have already blown it and go on to eat a couple more cupcakes, right? A program that leads to long term success acknowledges that these things are going to happen, but teaches you how to carry on with your head held high.

You will never be fully successful if you hold your feet to the fire and demand perfection. Just take a deep breath right this second and acknowledge that perfection isn’t required or realistic. It just doesn’t happen.

Finally, a good program will be flexible. No matter what your lifestyle or daily schedule is like, you should be able to work the program into your natural world without feeling completely stressed and confused.

Now consider what happens when you try to commit to a very serious program that includes a lot of very strenuous demands. Rather than allowing it to become a new lifestyle, you start letting one thing slip after the other until you are completely off the it altogether.

Guess what happens then? If you guessed that you gain all the lost weight right back, you are very right.

Your weight loss program has to be more than a program. It has to become a natural way of living that you no longer think about actually doing. You just do it on auto pilot. It should work out so you eventually feel it is completely natural.
