We have been blessed with abundant forms of renewable energy on this planet. There are a lot of alternative forms of energy which are inexhaustible and available all over the globe. However, most of these forms have only been used in the absence or deficiency of petroleum which is the most common form of energy used by man.
Energy sources like the wind, sun and the geothermal are inexhaustible no matter how much we may use them, however we need to know and understand how to harness them and turn them into the kind of power that we need. This has become particularly more important because the fossil fuels are getting depleted fast and we need to turn to alternative energy sources to meet all our requirements.
Transforming the raw fossil fuels into petroleum and other products included complicated processes such as refining and other processes. These processes are extremely expensive and need a lot of hard work as well. Since we have accomplished such as difficult task in the last century, it won’t really be that tough to harness the alternative energy sources.
Even though the idea of utilizing the alternative forms of energy may not be very familiar initially, we need to take this route in order to enhance our ecological environment, save our forests, reduce global warming and even ensure the maintenance of our modern standards of living.
Solar power is a renewable form of energy. Harnessing this form of energy involves buying apparatus which initially is more costly than harnessing the energy provided by the conventional fuels. However, we need to take this difference into our stride because this will happen when we make a change from conventional to non-conventional sources of energy. It’s not practical to think that we can just switch to the renewable sources and just do away with all the conventional sources of energy overnight. The change will be expensive ad gradual.
The process to generate electricity is actually not different from how electricity was discovered centuries ago by Michael Faraday, a British scientist. Electromagnetic induction is the most common method of transforming kinetic energy into electricity. There are six more methods aside from this, but working on all of these requires skills and knowledge to be able to develop a renewed energy that will benefit all of us.
These days the technology using photovoltaic devices has seen some rapid progress. However, the basic issue with the photovoltaic solar panels is that they are naturally more expensive than the electricity generated from the conventional sources of energy. Nevertheless, now there is a 40% leap in the capacity in places like New Jersey, Germany, California and Japan. With the kind of progress that is happening, it is hoped that it won’t be very long when solar power will be at par with petroleum in terms of the efficiency and the cost.
New power sources can be created but we need to understand the mistakes of the past and even know about the emerging methods and products. These days, students are being taught about the negative effects of pollution and the value of the earth, sun and the wind. The faster we develop new inexhaustible and non polluting sources of energy for the inhabitants of planet earth, the better it is!
