Unique and Special Wedding Touches For Your Unique and Special Day

by Aaron Hu

Many brides want a traditional wedding-a big white gown, a big church, and a big audience. Some brides sicken at the thought of doing such a thing, and want to put their own personal stamp on their special day. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be unique; here are a few suggestions for providing that original touch.

One of the first things that the bride may focus on is the bridal shower. This is a perfect time to bestow unique favors on the guests. Having a beach ceremony? Give them tiny pails and shovels, or shells. Getting married in Las Vegas? Make sure the favors have lots of glitter and shine, like hats with sequins and feathery boas, or even little slot machines so they can try their luck. Having a simple forest celebration? Try giving guests seeds that they can plant once they go home.

The transportation to your wedding can also be creative. Some brides like the idea of riding in a huge stretch Hummer limo. Others like the more traditional approach of a horse and carriage. Perhaps you want to be really wild and ride in on the back of a Harley. Or why not just drive it yourself? You may have to do a quick change once you reach the church, but it will certainly make quite an entrance.

Next, the wedding itself should have some unique qualities. Think about your family and your history. Are there any traditions that you might want incorporated into the nuptials? Perhaps you want to borrow from traditions other than your own. African Americans “jump the broom” during the ceremony, while the Irish eat three bites of salt and oatmeal at the reception. Both customs guarantee health and prosperity to the new couple.

The reception is another opportunity to be original in your presentation. Why have the site decorated with your colors? Be different! Give the reception a sister theme of its own! If you’ve decided that your wedding theme is “Winter Wonderland”, make the reception all about summer. The favors can reflect this; use sunglasses or soaps shaped like the sun as placeholders. Or leave tiny bottles of sunscreen at each seat.

How about an international menu? You can serve food from all over the world for a special touch. The unique quality of foods such as naan, Korean beef, or peanut soup will get your guests’ attention and make you the talk of the town. And again, your favors and decorations can reflect this theme.

Last but certainly not least, music is an area in which many couples choose to show their originality. Play songs everyone will like, of course, but throw in something a little different from time to time. If you’re a country fan, find a few rhythm and blues selections. If you prefer classical, add a rock song or two to the playlist. If you really want to shake things up, learn swing or foxtrot, and perform it for your first dance with your partner. Talk about a showstopper!

Having a unique wedding is hardly difficult. It simply takes a reasonable amount of planning and time. This is a once in a lifetime moment for you-why go traditional when you can make it something special for yourself and your groom? Think about your tastes, do the research and make your wedding your own!
