Waiting For A TMJ Cure To Work

by Lindsay Barnes

Not many people may realize that they already have temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder when they get it or suffer from it, but when the condition has finally been diagnosed, people absolutely cannot wait to get rid of it. Here is an illness that has symptoms that have been causing them a lot of grief, which they can’t really get rid of because they didn’t really know what was causing them. A headache that wouldn’t go away, shoulder pains, a ringing in the ears–people would be chomping at the bit to have the answers at last and be able to find out how to get rid of those, not to mention that weird grinding or popping sound whenever they move their jaws.

Cures for TMJ disorder vary depending on the causes and the symptoms, of course. If your TMJ disorder was caused by eating tough foods and habits such as biting your nails or grinding your teeth in your sleep, a TMJ cure might take a while to take effect. The ideal TMJ cure for these is simply to stop these habits–easy enough to say, but so hard to pull off. But remember that your jaw will need some time to be able to relax again after enduring years of the habit.

A TMJ cure that involves massaging the painful affected area may also take some time for you to feel the benefits. Keep in mind that this particular TMJ cure does not really get rid of your TMJ disorder, but simply helps to lessen the pain that you are feeling. An instant remedy is taking painkillers, although again, this only soothes pain rather than completely eliminates TMJ. Doing TMJ exercises can also help a bit in reducing pain, and could help inch your jaws back into their proper alignment.

TMJ cures that include surgery, on the other hand, can be considered to be faster-acting because they address the cause of your TMJ disorder at the source, replacing any cartilages that have been worn down or directly realigning your jaws. What you have to contend with in this procedure, however, is your recovery period after the operation.

But don’t let the time it takes to cure TMJ disorder discourage you from seeking a cure or the right type of treatment. At the end of your treatment or the amount of time you have to use the TMJ remedy, you will definitely end up feeling much better.
